To gain an in-depth understanding of the specific implementation and progress of various tasks related to deepening cooperation between our university and the University of Reading, Vice President Li Huanfeng visited the School of International Education at 5:00 p.m. on June 14th to conduct a survey and held a discussion with Professor Keshavan Niranjan, academician of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology and professor of the Food and Nutrition Department at the University of Reading, on deepening cooperation between the two sides. The meeting was hosted by Liu Guoshi, secretary of the party committee of the School of International Education, and attended by Zhou Yuan, deputy secretary of the party committee, and Zhao Hongyue, deputy director of the School of International Education.
First of all, Li Huanfeng, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to Professor Niranjan's visit and highly affirmed his tremendous efforts over the past 20 years in promoting cooperation between the two universities. Li Huanfeng pointed out that the university attaches great importance to cooperation with the University of Reading, and the cooperation between the two universities is showing a trend of rapid development. Firstly, the personnel interaction between the two universities is becoming increasingly frequent. Each year, nearly 30 people from both universities visit each other's campuses. Secondly, the high-level visits and communication mechanism between the two universities have become more mature. On March 7th of this year, Li Huanfeng met with Ms. Caroline, the vice chancellor of the University of Reading, and he will also invite Ms. Caroline to visit our university in September this year to discuss in detail plans for deepening cooperation. Finally, the cooperation models between the two universities have been continuously expanded. The joint application of the "Henan International Cooperation Joint Laboratory for Food Resource Development and Nutritional Health" by the two universities marks another milestone in close cooperation, and the establishment of the Reading Innovative Experimental Class is also a new exploration in deepening talent cultivation cooperation between the two universities. Li Huanfeng said that he hopes both sides will seize the historical opportunity, continuously innovate cooperation models, expand areas of cooperation, and achieve all-round mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as discipline construction, scientific research, multi-level talent cultivation at the bachelor’s, master's, and doctoral levels, and teacher-student exchanges and visits.
Professor Niranjan thanked Haut for its strong support for cooperation between the two sides. He mentioned that the University of Reading attaches great importance to its long-term partnership with our university and pays close attention to various development needs of both sides in the process of cooperation. Over the 20 years of jointly hosting China-foreign cooperative education projects, more than 300 students from Henan University of Technology have gone to the University of Reading for exchange studies and successfully graduated. Continuing to strengthen cooperation between the two universities and further expand areas of cooperation not only aligns with the international cooperation strategy of the University of Reading but is also its expectation. The cooperation achievements of the two universities over the past 20 years were hard-earned, so both sides have the responsibility and obligation to continue to work hard on this basis.
In the future, the International Education College will continue to take the China-foreign cooperative education projects with the University of Reading as the starting point, with cooperative undergraduate talent cultivation as the core, promote continuous strengthening of cooperation between the two universities, continuously innovate cooperation models, continuously expand areas of cooperation, and create a new pattern of international cooperation between China and foreign countries, making greater contributions to promoting the internationalization of the two universities!
